SCIAF welcomes new First Minister
28 March 2023
SCIAF welcome Humza Yousaf to the role of Scotland’s new First Minister.
SCIAF Chief Executive Alistair Dutton said,
“During his time in Government Mr Yousaf has been a great champion for international justice, promoting Scotland as a progressive player on the global stage. We hope as the new First Minister, Mr Yousaf will continue to pursue global justice, putting it at the centre of his vision for creating a progressive, prosperous and globally connected Scotland.
“As International Development Minister, we were delighted with the level of meaningful support he offered to SCIAF and our campaigns. In 2014, Mr Yousaf visited some of our projects in Zambia, where our partners shared the transformative impact sustainable agriculture was having on their lives. We were also heartened by his support for the 'Enough Food for Everyone' IF campaign in 2013. Mr Yousaf joined Scottish organisations like SCIAF in calling on the G8 to do all they can to tackle the global hunger crisis – a crisis that regrettably continues 10 years on."
“We urge him to continue Scotland’s remarkable leadership on Loss & Damage, to urgently get the country on track to achieving (and surpassing) our vital and legally binding climate targets, and to champion food justice here and across the world.
“We look forward to working closely with the new First Minister and would welcome his support for the issues most important to SCIAF and our global partners.”
