A green and just post-coronavirus recovery

1 June 2020

General

The only way we can get through the coronavirus crisis is if we work together. That’s why SCIAF has teamed up with over 70 charities, trade unions and faith-based organisations in a new campaign to Build Back Better.

As Scotland begins to recover from the devastating global pandemic, we have a chance to transform our world for the better by putting people and the planet first. Being part of a broad coalition of civil society organisations means that our priorities will be loud and clear as the Scottish Government plans the post-lockdown recovery.

SCIAF has signed a joint letter to the First Minister asking her to make sure Scotland champions a just and green recovery that does not leave developing nations behind. Together we are calling for:

  • stronger international action to tackle the twin emergencies of the coronavirus and climate crisis
  • increased climate funding so that Scotland does its fair share to protect the world’s poorest people who are already living with the consequences of climate change
  • coherence between all domestic policy in line with global sustainable development to put us on track to net zero emissions and limiting global warming to 1.5C

With the Scottish Government’s attention now turning to rebuilding our economy, the decisions made in the weeks and months ahead could shape our future for generations to come. Let’s make sure we get it right.

We are proud to stand with over 70 organisations in Scotland calling for a Just and Green Recovery

Please read the joint letter to the First Minister outlining the key steps to help achieve this.

This is just the beginning.  We need to grow and show public support for a recovery that helps us towards a greener, fairer world we all deserve.
