We welcomed our visitors from the DR Congo

16 March 2020

Archbishop François Xavier Maroy - Thérèse Mema Mapenzi - Archbishop Tartaglia

In early March, Archbishop François Xavier Maroy of Bukavu and Thérèse Mema Mapenzi arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Naturally, we set out to take them on a tour of Glasgow.

Archbishop François Xavier and Thérèse are our partners who work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They do amazing work for their communities, and we are delighted to welcome them to Scotland.

First stop was the Immaculate Conception parish, Maryhill, where our guests are staying during their visit. They met Parish Priest Fr. Jim Lawler and the schoolchildren from St Mary’s and St. Blane’s primary schools.

Over the weekend, they visited St Bernadette's parish.

They had the pleasure of meeting Glasgow's own Archbishop Tartaglia at our wonderful photo exhibition in St Andrew's Cathedral.

The exhibition displays images captured in the DR Congo by Angela Catlin, the award winning Scottish photographer.

Archbishop François Xavier Maroy and Thérèse Mema Mapenzi met our fantastic brand ambassadors, Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh. Both Deacon Blue stars were in the DR Congo earlier this year to hear stories of women affected by sexual violence.

They were reunited in our colder climate! They chatted on BBC Radio Scotland's 'Sunday Morning' Show.
