Centre Olame
Centre Olame Bukavu is part of the Archdiocese of Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), a branch of Caritas, working for the integral promotion of women, young girls and their households. They are working to improve the socioeconomic condition of women and girls and their households and are fighting against gender-based violence.
SCIAF has partnered with this women-led organisation since 2019, focusing on supporting survivors of SGBV. Currently, they are one of four partners working to deliver our UK Aid Match project, supporting survivors and their families to access medical care, psychological and legal support, and financial services.
The Director of Centre Olame, Thérèse Mema Mapenzi is also a member of SCIAF’s Board of Directors, and Chair of our Integral Human Development (IHD) committee. For fighting against Human Rights abuses, Thérèse has received recognition around the world, including the Coventry Prize for Peace and Reconciliation, the Shalom Prize in Germany, and the Human Rights Prize from the civil society of Bukavu in DR Congo.
