Humanitarian Crisis in Ethiopia
10 May 2021
Northern Ethiopia is experiencing a devastating humanitarian crisis as a result of heavy fighting between the regional government and the Federal government in the country’s Tigray region.
Many people have lost their lives, over two million people have fled their homes, and four and a half million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Families caught up in the violence urgently need food, water and shelter as they also face the devastating threat of the coronavirus pandemic.
How SCIAF is helping?
Despite the many challenges, our partners in the Ethiopian Catholic Church have been working round the clock to provide food, shelter, mattresses, financial support and other essentials to men, women and children who have fled the fighting and are experiencing unimaginable suffering.
For the most vulnerable people, such as children, the elderly and those living with disabilities, this support may be the difference between life and death.
More help is urgently needed
We urgently need help to reach even more of our sisters and brothers to provide clean water, food and emergency healthcare.
With your help, we can continue working through the Caritas network to deliver this vital humanitarian relief, and begin providing the foundations to re-build lives and communities.
It is time the eyes of the world focused on this urgent crisis in Ethiopia. We must stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers and do everything we can to ease their suffering.
Please pray for those in need, and give whatever you can to help.
