MSPs put politics aside for SCIAF’s WEE BOX

MSPs from all of Scotland's parties put politics aside to give their backing to SCIAF’s WEE BOX appeal 2025.  

First Minister John Swinney was joined by Patrick Harvie of the Green Party, Alba’s Ash Regan, Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton, Jackie Baillie of the Labour Party and Scottish Conservative Leader Russell Findlay as they joined forces to support SCIAF’s annual WEE BOX Appeal, which raises vital funds for its life-changing work in Africa, Asia and Latin America.    

Each year generous Scots up and down the country give up a favourite treat such as coffee, chocolate, wine or crisps during Lent and put the money they save into a SCIAF WEE BOX.   

Supporters also hold fundraising events in their schools and parishes and take on personal challenges to raise money. They then donate whatever they raise at Easter to provide a hand-up to vulnerable communities worldwide, struggling to survive due to hunger, poverty, conflict and the climate emergency.    

This year, SCIAF’s appeal focusses on emergency relief and peace-building projects in Chocó, the poorest – and most violent - part of Colombia.  

The First Minister John Swinney is a committed SCIAF supporter. 

He said:

“The SCIAF WEE BOX appeal is such a fundamental part of supporting the absolutely vital international aid efforts of SCIAF. 

“SCIAF’s got a long track record of supporting those in real difficulty around the world. Supported by the population here in Scotland, supported by the Catholic parishes of Scotland, SCIAF is such an important source of doing what we can here in Scotland to support those in difficulty in the international community. 

“So please support the WEE BOX appeal.”
