A call for prayers for Sudan

We must not forget about the people of Sudan. The war in Sudan is much unspoken of, but what is happening right now is completely catastrophic.

Very limited humanitarian access means people in dire situations are not receiving the help they need to survive. Tens of thousands of people have been killed. And the numbers reported are likely much higher.

11.7 million people have been forced to flee their homes - of which 3.1 million have had to leave the country. The UN has reported that Sudan has the world’s biggest hunger crisis. Food and nutrition insecurity is devastatingly high, and people are starving.

Sudan’s economy is in turmoil, social services have broken down, and communities continue to be hit by the effects of climate change. The leading causes of death are violence, starvation and disease. What’s worse, thousands of these health-related deaths could have been avoided. Immunization rates are at a critical low. Frequent disease outbreaks such as cholera, malaria, measles, and polio are exposing millions of unvaccinated children to fatal, yet preventable diseases.

Through the global Caritas network, SCIAF is in touch with partners in Sudan and South Sudan who are supporting refugees and displaced people.

While the world continues to be rocked by war and suffering in mainland Europe and the Middle East, the SCIAF family stands in solidarity with our sisters and brothers affected by conflict and calls for prayers for urgent peace.

Loving God,
Our world is being torn to shreds by violence, conflict, and disease.
Together, we cry urgently for peace.
May those in power work towards true and lasting solutions.
May humanitarian workers reach all who need help.
Protect those who are suffering.
That they may find a passage of safety, the medical attention they need, and are treated only with kindness.
Remind us to always act in love as global sisters and brothers.
Help each and every one of us do what we can to make the world a better place.
Amen.
