Backing the WEE BOX

Archbishops Philip Tartaglia and Leo Cushley, together with our Bishop President Joseph Toal, have called on Scots to back the WEE BOX.

The senior clergy have called on Catholics in schools and parishes across Scotland to do everything they can to make this year’s appeal a great success.

Bishop Joseph Toal said the WEE BOX had become a “staple feature” in Scottish communities.

"SCIAF’s WEE BOX appeal is always extremely popular and the iconic small boxes themselves have become a staple feature in households, parishes and schools throughout Scotland.

"The money raised goes towards helping people struggling for survival in some of the poorest countries in the world. The fact that the UK government will double donations given to the WEE BOX appeal before 8^th May is an extra incentive so make sure you get your WEE BOX and give what you can.  By working together, we can help change the lives of many of our poorest sisters and brothers for the better."

Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh Leo Cushley said the WEE BOX Lent appeal will have a huge impact on the poorest in the world:

"The three pillars of a Lent well lived are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. I’m therefore delighted to hear that the UK government will match every pound given to the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund’s 2018 Lenten campaign."

The extra money we recieve from the UK government will give more of the world’s poorest people the help they need to build a better future for themselves and their families.  Previous UK government Aid Match money has provided life-changing practical support to cattle herders in Ethiopia and women farmers in Malawi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
