Donations at work in Indonesia

Your donations are supporting the emergency relief efforts in Indonesia as the island of Sulawesi recovers from the recent earthquakes and tsunami. 

The latest figures report the death toll from the disaster is almost 2,000 and more than 60,000 people have been made homeless. It's estimated that 200,000 people are in need of emergency aid.

Families who have lost everything need a steady supply of clean drinking water and food. Tents, tarpaulin and blankets are also needed to protect them from the elements.

Fuel shortages and damaged roads are making recover efforts difficult, but still tremendous progress is being made. 

Our sister agency Caritas Indonesia have been working in the city of Palu since the earthquakes and tsunami struck. Your donations are helping them provide the vital supplies which are a lifeline in this time of crisis.

So far they've transported 7 tons of rice, cans of sardines and 500 boxes containing bottled water into the city to be distributed to those in need. They've also been providing emergency kits containing blankets, tarpaulins and mats to help people make temporary shelters.

Young children and the elderly are being prioritised as Caritas Indonesia work to reach people with these much needed supplies.

In addition to your generous donations, we’re also extremely grateful to the Scottish Government, whose Humanitarian Emergency Fund has contributed £16,000 to support this vital work.
