Scottish Government funding for Afghan crisis
24 March 2022
As the crisis in Afghanistan continues, SCIAF is delighted to have received £49,000 from the Scottish Government to provide urgent relief to families most in need.
This funding will allow our partner organisation, Catholic Relief Services (Caritas USA), to provide emergency funding to 300 families in some of the most drought-affected villages. CRS is currently working to support people who urgently need food in Ghor province.
We’re also extremely grateful to all of our generous supporters across Scotland who have to date raised £72,510 for those in dire need in Afghanistan. This funding is being used to provide Afghan Refugees living in Pakistan with emergency food, kitchen supplies, bedding and hygiene kits.
Across Afghanistan, families are facing extreme hunger due to a combination of intense drought and the financial crisis brought on by the recent Taliban takeover. Combined with the continued effects of COVID-19, these problems have increased job losses and food insecurity for millions of people. Low-income, rural families, are most at risk of malnutrition. With your generosity and the support of the Scottish Government, we’re able to support these communities to buy the basic food and farming supplies they need to survive.
